STRETCH IS SEEKING NEW TRUSTEES

STRETCH IS SEEKING NEW TRUSTEES STRETCH IS SEEKING NEW TRUSTEES1Stretch is seeking dynamic, influential and experienced individuals who can oversee and contribute to the ongoing development of an exciting arts charity.

Stretch was established in 2005 and aims to facilitate confidence and lifeskills through the creative arts, access to culture and new technology. We work mainly with the offending community and young people who are at risk of offending.  Stretch achieves its objectives by delivering a variety of innovative and bespoke projects, enhancing the rehabilitation and education of these marginalized communities. We are clear advocates of the benefits of cultural education in engaging into society those that have suffered social exclusion and fallen through the welfare net.

At present, our primary focus is the delivery of Stretch Digital, a Big Lottery funded digital literacy project with prisoners, providing a platform for the making and dissemination of digital stories using technology to bridge the digital divide. We equip participants with skills in new media in order to share their personal experiences of the criminal justice system and the life that lead them there. These authentic stories create greater understanding of the issues faced by offenders in order to implement change in public perception as well as policy making, while increasing participants’ skills, confidence and employability. We try to prepare people for the advances in digital technology that have occurred while they were in prison.

We are seeking trustees to join the board at an exciting stage in our development for an initial three-year period. We particularly encourage applications from individuals with interest and expertise in the following areas:

• Criminal justice
• Arts and technology
• Museums and galleries
• Training and education

This is an opportunity to oversee and contribute to the development of an exciting arts charity and make a significant impact on its governance and strategic direction. Board meetings are held quarterly in London, and occasional networking and relevant training may be required. Stretch is a registered charity. And as such trustees will be recruited on a voluntary basis, with all reasonable expenses covered by the charity.
